Air India Express has recently announced the commencement of direct flights between Surat and Dubai, marking the airline as the first to establish a direct link between the two cities. The inaugural flight, carrying 171 passengers, landed at Dubai International Airport on Sunday. This significant development coincided with the inauguration of Surat Airport's new international terminal by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Aloke Singh, the Managing Director of Air India Express, emphasized the importance of Surat in the airline's expansion plans, especially with the introduction of a new fleet. Singh stated, "We are part of the moment when Surat International Airport is growing and unveiling its new terminal. Air India Express is committed to fueling the growth story of Surat, as we connect the City of Diamonds to the City of Gold with this historic flight."

The airline is set to operate four weekly flights on the Surat-Dubai route. Currently, Air India Express holds the exclusive position of being the only airline facilitating international flights from Surat, with a frequency of five weekly flights to Sharjah.

Aloke Singh also mentioned the airline's strategic plans to enhance capacity to the Gulf region, including the UAE, and improve connectivity for Gulf travelers in various Tier 2 and 3 cities across India. He highlighted potential capacity increases to Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, and the UAE. Additionally, the airline aims to offer improved connectivity within India for Gulf travelers, particularly focusing on points in Kerala and exploring capacity increases from Kannur.

India-Dubai is recognized as one of the busiest air corridors, given the significant Indian diaspora in the UAE, constituting over one-third of the country's population. Dubai remains a top destination for Indian tourists, with India being the leading source of tourists to Dubai, as reported by Dubai Economy and Tourism figures.

Air India Express currently operates numerous flights to various destinations in the UAE, including Dubai (DXB) with 80 weekly flights, Sharjah with 77 weekly flights, Abu Dhabi with 31 flights, Al Ain with 2 flights, and Ras Al Khaimah with 5 weekly flights. The airline's expansion plans reflect the growing demand for air travel between India and the UAE, particularly in key travel corridors like Surat-Dubai.
